Heaviness of Heavy Quarkonia in Heavy Ion Collisions
نویسنده
چکیده
High energy heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) produce a novel medium characterized by an initial energy density over an order of magnitude above the expected phase transformation value and that then evolves as a nearly inviscid liquid. Probing the medium with auto-generated particles is a key methodology to quantitatively determine the medium properties. Pairs of heavy quarks are an excellent probe since their spatial separation to form various quarkonia states spans the relevant range of color screening lengths in the medium. In this proceedings, we describe results from the PHENIX experiment on J/ψ production and discuss initial physics implications of the measurements.

Heavy Quarkonia Production in p+p Collisions from the PHENIX Experiment
Quarkonia provide a sensitive probe of the properties of the hot dense medium created in high energy heavy ion collisions. Hard scattering processes result in the production of heavy quark pairs that interact with the collision medium during hadronization. These in-medium interactions convey information about the fundamental properties of the medium itself and can be used to examine the modific...
متن کاملModeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions
By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...
متن کاملDiagnostics of Quark-gluon Plasma in Ultrarelativistic Heavy Ion Collisions by Hard
We analyze the possibilities for studying properties of dense QCD-matter, created in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions, by hard QCD-production processes, so-called ”hard” probes – heavy quarkonia, hard jets, high mass dimuons. Special attention is paid to the potential of coming heavy ion experiments on Large Hadron Collider to observe the rescattering and energy losses of hard partons in qu...
متن کاملCharm and Charmonium in the Quark-gluon Plasma
In the first part of the talk, we briefly review the problem of parton-energy loss and thermalization at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider and discuss how heavy quarks (charm and bottom) can help to resolve the existing experimental and theoretical puzzles. The second part of the talk is devoted to the properties of heavy quarkonia in the (strongly interacting) Quark-Gluon Plasma (sQGP) and t...
متن کاملCharmonium and bottomonium production in heavy-ion collisions
We review the present status in the theoretical and phenomenological understanding of charmonium and bottomonium production in heavy-ion collisions. Starting from an introductory historical perspective, recapitulating the basic notion of “anomalous quarkonium suppression” in heavy-ion collisions, we develop ingredients and concepts aimed at a comprehensive approach to utilize heavy quarkonia as...
